Reading Martin Chulov's report one is conned into thinking that if only the
Palestinians stopped fighting and the Israelis could retreat, life for the
Palestinians would suddenly become rosier. Until the last paragraph, which
brings us to the abrupt realisation that the investment projects have not
materialised. What is not overtly stated but should be the key point in the
report is that Israel's illegal occupation and colonisation of Palestinian
land and its people continues unabated. This occupation is denying
Palestinians there basic human rights and controlling every aspect of their
lives. Even if the "much-hyped investment projects" were to be realised they
would be forever under threat of Israel's controlling interference, thereby
blackmailing the Palestinians into giving up resisting their occupation if
they want economic security. It is the illegal occupation that must come to
an end first - anything else is putting the cart before the horse and will
have disastrous consequences.
