I IMAGINE that now that Greg Sheridan ("Worn-out US seeks bargain with Iran'', Inquirer, 21-22/6) has ditched the two-state solution for the Palestinians in favour of a joint confederation with Egypt and Jordan, we can all rest easy and that peace in the Middle East is imminent. His conclusion is so ridiculous it beggars belief.
It has been accepted by any party with a legitimate interest in peace that the 1967 borders determine a Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza with East Jerusalem as its capital. Israel, however, has been bulldozing its way through the majority of Palestine for six decades now making an independent Palestine all but impossible.
It's about time that Sheridan's blind faith in all things Israel is called into question. Even the most ardent Zionist supporter could not possibly have us believe that the Palestinians are completely to blame and that his confederation concept is anything more than a sad joke.
